Anatomy of a Journalistic Investigation
(cont.)

Police Department

"The call came in at 10:32 P.M.," said Detective Dan Collins of the Newark Police. "The unit arrived at 10:44 and could really find nothing to substantiate an earthquake or anything like that and closed out at 10:46. They contacted PSE&G but could not find anything to substantiate an earthquake or anything like that."

Fire Department

The Fire Department also confirmed that they had answered the call. "An alarm came in at 22:30," said Stanley Kossup, Newark's fire director. "The fire department responded to the location. They sent one company down. It was booked as a 305, a false alarm. There were no unusual events. There weren't any UFOs flying around."
